Bemidji, Day Four
Rehearsed the scenes without Max.
We got lunch at the Keg ‘n’ Cork, where we had the single most incompetent waitress we’d ever seen. She was comically bad.
Zach and I went to a radio station to record a spot for the show, which we did in no time at all (just me saying a small chunk of my opening monologue), then we resumed rehearsal. We finished early.
At 6:00, some of us gathered at an Irish pub called Brigid’s Cross to have dinner and drinks before seeing the current Paul Bunyan show The Foreigner. (Ari and Zach were hilarious.) Michael returned in time to see the show with us.
After the show, we headed to a place outside of town called Cattails for some karaoke. As I drove into the darkness on the rural highway, I thought, What, is karaoke illegal within city limits? When I finally got to the place, it surprised me. I expected a run down hole in the wall, but it was a new, hip, nice place.
I did “It’s the End of the World as We Know It,” which was a hit, after which, Eric shouted, “Oh, sure, you’re off book for that!” Eric did a spot on Neil Diamond impression on “I am, I Said.” Some local guy did an earth-shattering rendition of “More than a Feeling.” A good night for karaoke.
When we returned to the dorms, our stage manager Al helped me get the internet in my room sorted out. Thanks, Al!
Tomorrow: Rehearsing on the 4th of July.
