Look at me! On IMDb!

http://imdb.com/name/nm2865955/

I’m on it because, as I’ve mentioned in a previous post, a student film in which I appeared is getting DVD distribution in Denmark. Not to knock the project, but it’s an admittedly inauspicious introduction.

Still from “Retina”
Heather Amos and me in Retina. Yeah, this pretty much sums the thing up.Recap: The DVD is a compilation of short horror, and it’s called The Horror Vault. The piece I’m in is called Retina, which is a dark, moody, expressionistic, and mostly nonsensical piece by J.P. Wenner. In coming weeks, I’ll be shooting with him again on the feature length horror film The Spooner Sisters. It’s a sweet role, and I hope it turns out well. (I wish I’d worked out, though. I don’t feel quite rough and manly enough for the role. Oh, well.)Now I’m wondering how I can actually get more info and a picture on my IMDb profile. It appears that I’d have to sign up for a pro account at $2.50/month, and I can use it to promote myself. I’m not fond of that idea. Shouldn’t it be free information in this sort of situation? Does Will Smith have to pay $2.50/month? I don’t like the idea that it’s taking advantage of desperate people. Telling people who had that one featured extra gig that they can buy their way onto the IMDb. Put your picture and résumé on the IMDb and promote yourself! That doesn’t sit well with me. Not that there’s any shortage of websites (or even talent and casting agencies) that promise marketing power in exchange for a headshot résumé and a wad of cash. And all they do is slap your picture on a site or in a book alongside hundreds or thousands of others. I’d pay for real marketing, but this kind of thing doesn’t strike me as that. You might as well claim that you’re white pages listing is an effective way to “get seen.” At least my MySpace page has actually come in handy for that on a local level. Meh.

I find it amusing that I’m credited as “The Man.”
Indeed, I am.

Indeed, I am.
